Technical Details

what runs on :9993

ZeroTier carries its virtual-network protocol over UDP, using port 9993 by default. It uses peer-to-peer connectivity and NAT traversal where possible; the traffic is encrypted as part of the ZeroTier protocol. This is a ZeroTier convention, not an IANA service assignment, and TCP or SCTP is not the normal transport for this port.

security overview

UDP 9993 is normally expected to be reachable for ZeroTier connectivity, but exposure can make a host discoverable and subject it to probing or denial-of-service attempts. Overlay access is intended to be restricted by network membership and authorization; allow the port only where ZeroTier is deployed and apply the product's access controls.
