Technical Details

what runs on :9902

The IANA assignment is the ENRP server channel over SCTP with TLS. An SCTP association is established first, followed by a TLS handshake; ENRP control messages are exchanged over the protected channel once TLS is established. ENRP is used by RSerPool Pool Registrars to coordinate handlespace information between registrars. Port 9901 is the related ENRP server-channel assignment without the TLS designation. Because this uses SCTP rather than TCP, TCP-only port scans may not detect it.

security overview

This is a specialized registrar control-plane service and generally should be reachable only by trusted ENRP peers, not exposed broadly to the internet. TLS protects traffic in transit, but peer authorization depends on appropriate certificate and policy configuration; restrict SCTP access to the intended registrars and monitor for unexpected associations.
