Technical Details

what runs on :9339

This is a TCP endpoint for gNMI and gNOI, RPC interfaces defined using Protocol Buffers and carried by gRPC over HTTP/2. gNMI provides Get, Set, and streaming Subscribe operations for device state and configuration; gNOI provides operational RPCs for tasks such as system, file, OS, and certificate operations. With TLS, gRPC negotiates HTTP/2 (commonly using ALPN h2); the RPCs use protobuf messages framed within gRPC streams. TLS and authentication are common in production, but the port number alone does not guarantee either. Port 9339 is the registry assignment; gNMI is also commonly deployed on other ports, including 57400.

security overview

An exposed endpoint can provide access to sensitive network telemetry and, depending on enabled RPCs and authorization, allow configuration changes or other device operations. Restrict it to a trusted management network or VPN, require TLS and strong authentication, and apply least-privilege authorization; do not assume that use of this port ensures encryption or access control.
