Technical Details

what runs on :914

RIFT uses UDP port 914 for control-plane communication. LIE messages provide local link and node information and are used to discover neighbors and establish RIFT adjacencies; subsequent RIFT control messages exchange topology and reachability information. Traffic is normally exchanged only between participating nodes on the routed fabric, with protocol behavior and timers determined by the RIFT implementation and deployment.

security overview

RIFT control traffic should be confined to trusted fabric links or protected control-plane segments and should not be exposed to the public internet. An attacker able to inject or interfere with RIFT messages could disrupt neighbor formation or influence routing state; the protocol is not encrypted by default, so deployments should rely on network isolation and any supported control-plane authentication or lower-layer protection.
