Technical Details

what runs on :8805

PFCP uses UDP destination port 8805. It is a message-based protocol defined in 3GPP TS 29.244: nodes exchange messages such as association setup, heartbeat, and session establishment, modification, and deletion. Messages use a PFCP header with a message type and sequence number, followed by information elements; it does not use a TCP-style connection handshake. PFCP controls forwarding behavior on the UPF, while user-plane traffic commonly uses GTP-U on UDP port 2152.

security overview

PFCP is not encrypted or authenticated by default, and its control messages can affect user-plane session and forwarding state. Exposing it to untrusted networks can allow probing or, depending on the implementation and network controls, forged control messages that disrupt or alter service. It should normally be restricted to trusted 5G-core interfaces and protected by network isolation and appropriate transport security, such as IPsec where deployed.
