Technical Details

what runs on :8211

PAPI is Aruba's proprietary AP-to-controller control protocol, carried over UDP port 8211. It supports management and control exchanges between an AP and its controller; it is not a browser-facing or interactive login service. Aruba deployments may also use GRE (IP protocol 47) or IPsec for tunneled traffic, depending on configuration.

security overview

Keep UDP 8211 limited to trusted APs and controllers; it should not be exposed to the public internet. ArubaOS PAPI has had serious vulnerabilities, including unauthenticated command-injection issues in affected versions, so patch controllers and restrict access with network ACLs.
