BLPAPI clients use a session-oriented, proprietary protocol over TCP to send requests and subscriptions and receive responses or streaming updates; it is not an HTTP service. The common Desktop API setup expects the Bloomberg Terminal to be running and makes the API available locally on TCP 8194. Although IANA lists both TCP and UDP, the familiar BLPAPI listener is TCP.
