Technical Details

what runs on :8101

The LDoms migration daemon (ldmd) uses TCP port 8101 by default for communication between the source and destination control domains. Migration traffic uses SSL/TLS encryption and carries the state needed to move a guest domain; this is a service-to-service control-domain connection, not a guest-facing application protocol such as HTTP. The port is relevant when an administrator initiates a migration and should generally be reachable only between the participating systems.

security overview

Migration can transfer sensitive guest memory and state, so restrict this port to trusted control domains and the management network; it should not be exposed to the public internet. Encryption protects migration traffic in normal use, but an internet-reachable migration daemon still exposes a privileged virtualization control-plane service to probing and potential implementation vulnerabilities.
