Technical Details

what runs on :7784

UDP destination port 7784 is assigned for S-BFD Control packets, as specified in RFC 7880. S-BFD uses BFD control-packet formats but avoids setting up a conventional BFD session with every monitored endpoint: an initiator sends a packet identifying the target with its discriminator, and an S-BFD reflector replies. The exchange is connectionless; there is no TCP handshake or application stream framing.

security overview

S-BFD traffic is not encrypted, and an open UDP port may expose a network device’s control-plane handling to probing or packet floods. Keep it reachable only from intended network peers and apply the device’s control-plane filtering and rate limits; it is not normally a service to expose to the public internet.
