Technical Details

what runs on :7624

INDI is a client/server protocol for discovering and controlling astronomical devices. An INDI server normally listens on TCP port 7624 and exchanges XML element messages over a persistent connection: clients request device properties, the server reports available properties and their state, and clients send property updates or commands. The registry lists both TCP and UDP, but deployed INDI communication normally uses TCP; UDP is not the usual service behavior.

security overview

The standard INDI connection does not provide encryption or authentication, so an exposed server may allow remote clients to inspect and control connected observatory equipment. Keep it off the public internet; restrict access with a firewall or place remote access behind a VPN or other authenticated, encrypted tunnel.
