Technical Details

what runs on :7017

RFC 8990 defines GRASP on TCP and UDP port 7017. It exchanges CBOR-encoded messages: UDP supports discovery and related signaling, while TCP provides reliable peer-to-peer exchanges for negotiation; TCP messages are length-delimited. GRASP is commonly carried within the ACP, which provides the protected control-plane connectivity between autonomic nodes. It is a specialized network-control protocol, not a general-purpose application service.

security overview

In its normal ANIMA deployment, GRASP traffic is carried inside the ACP, whose secure channels protect control-plane traffic. GRASP itself should not be treated as an internet-facing security boundary: exposing an implementation outside that protected environment can allow reachable peers to inject signaling or consume protocol resources. Restrict it to trusted autonomic-network links and ACP interfaces; it is rarely encountered open in internet scans.
