Technical Details

what runs on :6635

MPLS-in-UDP is specified in RFC 7510. A sender places an MPLS label stack and its packet payload after the UDP header, using UDP destination port 6635; the receiver decapsulates the datagram and processes the MPLS packet. UDP has no connection handshake, and the encapsulation does not itself negotiate parameters or provide encryption. It is a distinct MPLS encapsulation from alternatives such as MPLS-in-GRE.

security overview

MPLS-in-UDP provides no built-in encryption or peer authentication. An exposed endpoint may accept spoofed or unauthorized tunnel traffic, so restrict access to known tunnel peers and use network controls or separate security mechanisms where needed. This is not normally a public-facing service, and internet-wide scans have not commonly observed it open.
