Technical Details

what runs on :6118

TIPC over UDP encapsulates TIPC packets in UDP datagrams on port 6118; it does not use a TCP-style connection handshake. TIPC provides node and service addressing and manages its own links and discovery over the configured bearer. The UDP bearer must be enabled and configured on participating nodes; this is not a general-purpose UDP service that is normally listening on every Linux host. TIPC traffic is not encrypted by default.

security overview

Do not expose this port to the public internet: TIPC is intended for trusted cluster networks, and its traffic is not encrypted by default. Restrict it to the required cluster peers and keep the kernel patched; a serious remote heap-overflow vulnerability, CVE-2021-43267, affected reachable Linux TIPC implementations.
