Technical Details

what runs on :6069

TRIP (RFC 3219) is a routing protocol for IP telephony, modeled on BGP: location servers exchange reachability information for telephony destinations, including route updates and withdrawals. Standard TRIP peers use reliable TCP sessions on port 6069; although IANA lists both TCP and UDP for this assignment, UDP is not the usual transport for TRIP sessions. The protocol does not encrypt traffic by default.

security overview

A reachable TRIP listener may expose routing information or accept updates from peers, so an untrusted peer could potentially influence how calls are routed. Do not expose it broadly to the internet: restrict access to configured peers and use network-layer protections such as IPsec where needed. The protocol is rarely encountered in internet scans.
