HART-IP carries HART application messages over TCP or UDP port 5094. It provides an IP-based client/server path for HART command and response exchanges, commonly terminating at a gateway that connects Ethernet or wireless IP networks to wired HART instrument loops. Messages use a HART-IP protocol header with an encapsulated HART message; TCP provides an ordered session, while UDP supports datagram-based deployments. The protocol is distinct from HTTP and does not normally require a separate companion port.
