Technical Details

what runs on :4754

GRE-in-UDP encapsulates a GRE packet in a UDP datagram, using UDP destination port 4754 as specified by RFC 8086. It is connectionless and has no application-level handshake: a configured endpoint receives the UDP datagram and processes its payload as GRE. The GRE payload retains GRE's own header and encapsulated network packet; this is distinct from native GRE, which uses IP protocol number 47 rather than a TCP or UDP port. The encapsulation itself does not provide encryption.

security overview

GRE-in-UDP does not authenticate peers or encrypt tunnel traffic by itself. An exposed endpoint may accept unwanted tunnel traffic or be targeted with spoofed or malformed packets, depending on its implementation and configuration. It is generally best restricted to configured peer addresses and protected with network-layer filtering; do not treat the nonstandard-looking port as a security control.
