Technical Details

what runs on :4730

Gearman job servers normally listen on TCP port 4730. Clients submit jobs to the server, which routes them to workers advertising the relevant function; workers return results to the server for delivery to clients. Gearman supports a line-oriented text protocol and a binary protocol with length-prefixed packets. IANA also lists UDP for this service, but normal client-and-worker deployments use TCP. Traffic is not encrypted by default, and the protocol does not provide built-in authentication.

security overview

Do not expose a Gearman server directly to the internet. Without built-in authentication, reachable clients may submit jobs or interact with the queue; the consequences depend on what the connected workers do, and can include triggering sensitive application actions or consuming resources. Restrict access to trusted application and worker hosts, and use network controls or a protected tunnel where traffic crosses untrusted networks.
