Technical Details

what runs on :434

Mobile IPv4 uses UDP port 434 for registration signaling between a mobile node and a foreign or home agent. Registration requests and replies are exchanged as protocol messages over UDP; agent discovery itself uses ICMP Router Discovery messages with Mobile IP extensions rather than this port. The signaling is not encrypted by default, though Mobile IP authentication extensions and IPsec can provide integrity or confidentiality.

security overview

Mobile IP registration must be authenticated in a correctly configured deployment, but exposed agents can still receive spoofed or resource-exhaustion traffic and may be targeted to disrupt mobility registration. This specialized service should normally be restricted to expected mobility peers and should not be exposed broadly to the public Internet.
