The userspace BATMAN daemon (batmand) commonly sends mesh-routing control messages over UDP on port 4305. Originator messages are broadcast among mesh peers and use sequence information and link-quality metrics to build routes; this is mesh control traffic, not an application data service. IANA lists both TCP and UDP, but UDP is the transport associated with typical BATMAN routing traffic, so a TCP listener should be verified as implementation-specific. The distinct batman-adv kernel implementation uses Ethernet frames rather than TCP or UDP, so it will not appear as an IP listener on port 4305.
