Technical Details

what runs on :4304

owserver is the network backend in OWFS: clients send requests to access 1-Wire devices through filesystem-like paths, and the daemon returns device data or performs requested operations. TCP port 4304 is the customary default for OWFS server connections; the registry also lists UDP. The OWServer protocol is a project-specific request/response protocol, not a general file-sharing protocol, and traffic is not encrypted by default.

security overview

Do not expose this service directly to the internet. Network clients may be able to read sensor data and, where writes are allowed, interact with devices on the 1-Wire bus; the protocol does not provide encryption, so restrict access to trusted networks and use firewall rules or a secure tunnel.
