Technical Details

what runs on :4025

The Partimage server daemon, partimaged, normally listens on configurable TCP port 4025, the default assigned port. A Partimage client establishes a proprietary client-server session and transfers compressed partition-image data in blocks; this is not an HTTP or general-purpose file-transfer protocol. The IANA registration includes UDP, but normal Partimage deployments use TCP only.

security overview

Partition images can contain complete filesystems, credentials, and other sensitive data. The service should not be exposed directly to the Internet: attackers can probe or attempt authentication and, if access is obtained, read or potentially restore images. Partimage deployments should use network restriction and an encrypted tunnel or otherwise verify whether the particular build and configuration provide encryption; traffic is not encrypted by default.
