Technical Details

what runs on :36423

Port 36423 is the IANA-assigned SCTP port for the 3GPP SLm Interface Application Protocol (SLmAP). The protocol supports location-service procedures between an MME and an SLP, including signaling associated with SUPL-based positioning. Peers establish an SCTP association before exchanging SLmAP messages; the protocol uses 3GPP-defined ASN.1 messages. SCTP provides transport reliability and multistreaming, but does not itself encrypt traffic. Deployments are normally confined to the mobile operator's network, and the actual port may be changed by configuration.

security overview

This port should not be exposed to the public internet. SLmAP is mobile-core signaling involving location services; an exposed listener could invite probing or attempts to interfere with or disclose sensitive signaling. Restrict access to authorized network peers and use the operator's network security controls, such as IPsec where applicable. SCTP does not provide encryption by default.
