EtherCAT is a real-time industrial Ethernet protocol in which devices process datagrams as frames pass through the network. Native EtherCAT uses Ethernet EtherType 0x88A4; the same value in decimal is UDP port 34980, used to carry EtherCAT traffic over IP where needed. The registry also lists TCP, but native EtherCAT and common IP tunneling use Ethernet frames and UDP respectively, not a typical TCP listener.
