iFCP, specified in RFC 4172, lets gateways interconnect Fibre Channel fabrics by carrying Fibre Channel frames over TCP/IP. iFCP gateways establish TCP connections with one another and exchange protocol control information and encapsulated Fibre Channel traffic; the assigned service port is 3420/TCP. The registry lists 3420/UDP as well, but that does not mean ordinary iFCP traffic uses UDP. iFCP does not encrypt traffic by default; deployments can protect connections with network-layer security such as IPsec.
