Technical Details

what runs on :3305

Odette File Transfer Protocol (OFTP) was developed by the Odette Organization to enable standardized, efficient and interoperable file exchanges mainly between companies in the automotive sector. Operating over TCP, UDP, and more recently optional secure protocols, OFTP supports bulk data transfers such as invoices, orders, technical documents, and engineering designs.

OFTP implements features such as session establishment, flow control, put/get operations, and error recovery to ensure reliable delivery of files. While OFTP was initially designed to work over dedicated X.25 networks, Version 2 (OFTP2) extended capabilities to facilitate use over TCP/IP networks, supporting compression, encryption, digital signatures, and large file transfer (up to several gigabytes).

Traditionally used within closed B2B environments, OFTP has become an industry standard for exchanging high-value and sensitive data in supply chains. The protocol supports checkpoint restart mechanisms and can resume interrupted transfers, which is essential for industrial-scale operations.

security overview

Common vulnerabilities:

  • Lack of native encryption support in OFTP v1, making data susceptible to interception on insecure networks
  • Susceptibility to replay attacks or man-in-the-middle attacks if secure transport options are not implemented
  • Misconfigurations exposing OFTP services externally, increasing attack surface
  • Weak authentication or use of legacy credentials which can be compromised

Common mitigations:

  • Prefer OFTP2 over OFTP1, as it includes built-in support for TLS encryption, file encryption, and digital signatures
  • Use VPN tunneling for additional secure transport if encryption is not natively enabled
  • Enforce strong authentication mechanisms and disable anonymous access
  • Restrict OFTP services’ exposure using network segmentation and firewalls
  • Regularly patch and update OFTP server software to mitigate known vulnerabilities
  • Monitor access logs and transmissions for unusual activity to detect potential compromises
