SSLIOP carries CORBA's General Inter-ORB Protocol (GIOP) over a TLS-protected connection, typically using TCP: the peers establish TLS first, then exchange GIOP messages inside the encrypted stream. GIOP messages have a header identifying the protocol version, message type, byte order, and message size; this is CORBA object traffic, not Oracle's database wire protocol. IANA lists both TCP and UDP for this assignment, but ordinary SSLIOP deployments use TCP; UDP is not a normal TLS transport. Port 2481 is commonly used for the corresponding non-SSL GIOP service.
