VCMP is a proprietary SD-WAN tunneling protocol assigned to TCP and UDP port 2426. Normal deployments primarily use UDP for path-aware overlay transport between VeloCloud Edges and Gateways; the protocol encapsulates customer traffic and can use multiple available underlay paths, while the VeloCloud control plane coordinates tunnel establishment and path selection. The overlay is normally encrypted and authenticated by the SD-WAN system rather than exposed as an application protocol that a generic client can speak.

Port 2426 is normally intended for VeloCloud SD-WAN Edge or Gateway communication, not for arbitrary public clients. Internet-facing VeloCloud Gateways may legitimately receive this traffic, but unmanaged exposure can permit probing, resource-exhaustion attempts, and exploitation of vulnerabilities in the appliance software; restrict it to expected peers and keep the platform patched. The encapsulated customer traffic is encrypted in normal VCMP operation.
