A management system sends command messages and receives acknowledgements, responses, and autonomous event reports; messages use TL1 command syntax and delimiters rather than a binary record format. TCP is the usual transport for an interactive session, while IANA also lists UDP for this service. TL1 itself does not provide encryption, so secure deployments require a protected management network or an external secure tunnel.
