Technical Details

what runs on :2119

The gatekeeper normally listens on TCP 2119 and uses the Globus Security Infrastructure (GSI) for certificate-based mutual authentication and delegated credentials. After authentication and authorization, it launches or connects the requested GRAM job manager, with subsequent control and callback traffic potentially using additional configured or dynamically assigned ports. UDP is registered for the service name, but the established Globus gatekeeper protocol is primarily TCP-based.

security overview

This service should generally be restricted to trusted Grid peers or reachable through a site firewall. A successfully authenticated client may be able to submit jobs or obtain delegated credentials according to the site's mapping and authorization policy; exposed implementations can also be targeted for credential, parser, and legacy Globus Toolkit vulnerabilities.
