Technical Details

what runs on :16385

RDS provides reliable message delivery with datagram-style semantics. In the TCP transport, peers establish a TCP connection to port 16385 and exchange RDS-framed messages over it; this is distinct from ordinary Oracle Net traffic. RDS is also implemented over transports such as InfiniBand, so the TCP port is relevant specifically when RDS/TCP is in use. Oracle RAC uses RDS for low-latency inter-node communication, including cluster database messaging.

security overview

RDS traffic is not encrypted by default and is intended for trusted cluster communication, not public clients. Keep TCP/16385 restricted to the database cluster interconnect and trusted peers; internet exposure could reveal or put sensitive internal cluster traffic and its protocol implementation within reach of attackers.
