Technical Details
what runs on :1113LTP is a transaction-oriented, delay-tolerant protocol designed for long-delay or disrupted links. It commonly runs over UDP, although this assignment also covers TCP, and uses session identifiers plus data and control segments to provide reliability for red-part data while allowing optional less-reliable green-part data. Checkpoints, reports, retransmission, cancellation, and status signaling support delivery across links where long-lived TCP connections are unsuitable. LTP does not define encryption or authentication; security is normally provided by the surrounding DTN or link-security system.

security overview
LTP traffic is not encrypted or authenticated by default, so an exposed listener could be spoofed or subjected to malformed-segment, state-exhaustion, and resource-consumption attacks. Because this is a specialized DTN protocol and is rarely expected from the public internet, port 1113 should generally be restricted to authorized spacecraft, ground, or overlay peers and protected with link security, IPsec, or an equivalent control.
