Technical Details

what runs on :1043

BOINC client control is an RPC interface used by the BOINC Manager and other management tools. The control protocol is normally carried over TCP using framed XML-style requests and responses, with authentication based on the client's GUI RPC password; the registry assignment lists both TCP and UDP, although routine client-control traffic is generally TCP. The commonly documented default control port is TCP 31416, while 1043 may be used when configured or by older deployments.

security overview

The interface can expose administrative control over a BOINC client, including changing projects and controlling computation. It is not encrypted by default and should normally be restricted to localhost or trusted management hosts; do not expose it directly to the internet.
