Technical Details

what runs on :10161

The SNMP-TLS transport uses TCP port 10161. A TLS handshake establishes the protected connection before SNMP messages are exchanged; the SNMP messages use length-delimited framing over the stream. The transport is designed for SNMPv3 and its Transport Security Model, which can map TLS certificate identities to SNMP security names. The familiar SNMP port is UDP/161; this TCP port is the registered TLS transport.

security overview

TLS encrypts traffic in normal use and can authenticate peers using certificates, but the protection depends on correct certificate and SNMP access-control configuration. SNMP can expose device details and provide management capabilities, so restrict the listener to trusted management networks rather than exposing it to the public internet.
