A client connects to the listener, performs the Informix connection and encryption handshake, and then exchanges framed SQL requests, results, and control messages; the protocol is not HTTP or a generic TLS application service. IANA registers both TCP and UDP for this service, but deployed Informix SQL connections are normally TCP-based. Port 9088 is commonly used for the corresponding conventional Informix SQL interface, while 9089 is the encrypted listener.
