DPP bootstraps devices using public-key information (often shared through a QR code), then authenticates a configurator and enrollee and provisions Wi-Fi network settings. The commonly described DPP exchange uses IEEE 802.11 Public Action frames; a TCP listener on this port is the registered IP-transport endpoint, not the usual over-the-air exchange. DPP is not an HTTP service, and TCP alone does not define its application framing.

DPP uses cryptographic authentication and protects provisioning exchanges, but a reachable provisioning endpoint is still sensitive: an attacker may probe it or attempt to interact with the onboarding process. Keep it limited to the intended local provisioning network and do not expose it to the public internet; the protocol's cryptography does not make an unnecessary listener safe.
