This is TCP, but there is no single protocol behavior guaranteed by the port number. The IANA assignment is NewsEDGE server TCP (TCP 1); separately, 8888 is widely used for HTTP services and is Jupyter's default server port. Those services use ordinary HTTP request/response framing, with Jupyter's browser interface and API carried over HTTP; Jupyter normally enables token authentication, while TLS is optional and must be configured. A listener on 8888 is not by itself evidence that it is NewsEDGE or Jupyter.
