Technical Details

what runs on :8443

The IANA assignment is PCsync HTTPS, but port numbers do not identify the application: 8443 is widely used as an alternate HTTPS port. A typical TCP listener begins with a TLS handshake, then carries HTTP inside the encrypted connection; Tomcat commonly uses 8443 for a configured HTTPS connector. The registry also lists UDP, but UDP/8443 is not a universal HTTPS service—QUIC/HTTP/3 can use UDP when a server is configured for it. There is no single application-level protocol or framing guaranteed by this port.

security overview

An exposed 8443 listener may be an ordinary web application or a sensitive management console. Identify the service and its authentication requirements, keep it patched, and restrict administrative interfaces to trusted networks; TLS protects traffic in transit but does not make an exposed or vulnerable application safe.
