Technical Details

what runs on :8432

TCP 8432 is pgBackRest’s default TLS server port. It is not a PostgreSQL SQL listener: when TLS server mode is configured, the connection begins with a TLS handshake and then carries pgBackRest’s own protocol for remote backup and restore operations. The server must be configured and started to listen; pgBackRest installations using its SSH-based remote protocol do not normally open this port.

security overview

Do not expose this service broadly to the internet. An authorized connection can access sensitive backup and restore operations, so restrict it to trusted backup hosts and configure TLS authentication and certificates appropriately. Exposure could put backup data and the systems or databases it protects at risk.
