Technical Details

what runs on :8270

The remote library interface uses XML-RPC over HTTP on TCP; port 8270 is a commonly used default, not a requirement of every implementation. Clients send XML-RPC requests in HTTP POST bodies to retrieve library and keyword information or invoke a keyword, and the server returns results or errors in XML-RPC responses. The interface does not provide transport encryption by default; HTTPS or a secure tunnel must be supplied separately.

security overview

A reachable server may let a client inspect its library and invoke exposed keywords, so the impact depends on what those keywords can do and the privileges of the server process. The interface does not provide encryption by default, and deployments should be kept off the public internet or protected with network restrictions and a secure transport or tunnel.
