Odette FTPS
Odette File Transfer Protocol over TLS/SSL (OFTP over TLS) is a secure communication protocol primarily used within the automotive industry and related supply chains in Europe. It facilitates secure, reliable file transfers between suppliers, manufacturers, and business partners by leveraging encrypted connections to protect sensitive business documents..
Odette File Transfer Protocol (OFTP) is a protocol designed for the exchange of electronic documents between business partners, widely adopted in the European automotive industry. It supports both point-to-point and store-and-forward messaging, facilitating automated, reliable, and efficient file transfers of EDI messages, CAD drawings, and other sensitive business data.
With the advent of OFTP v2, the protocol incorporated significant security enhancements, including support for encryption, digital signatures, and file compression. To further secure communications, OFTP can run over TLS/SSL, providing encrypted channels to protect data integrity and confidentiality during transit. Communication occurs over TCP or UDP on port 6619, using SSL/TLS sessions to encapsulate the OFTP dialogue.
OFTP over TLS ensures interoperability across diverse platforms, with support for large file sizes, exchange of signed/encrypted files, and features such as session-level security, restartable transfers in case of interruptions, and detailed session logging. This makes it well-suited for high-assurance file exchanges required by supply chains and industrial partners.
