Technical Details

what runs on :6103

RETS is an application protocol carried over HTTP: clients typically establish a session, log in, retrieve metadata, then issue searches or request objects such as listing photos. Responses can include XML metadata and RETS Compact-format records. In normal use, HTTP runs over TCP; a UDP registration does not make UDP a typical RETS transport. Although IANA assigns the name RETS to port 6103, production RETS services are generally exposed as web endpoints on conventional HTTP(S) ports, and 6103 is not a commonly observed listening port.

security overview

A reachable RETS endpoint may expose MLS listing and associated data and should require authentication and appropriate access controls. RETS itself does not provide encryption: use HTTPS or another protected transport, since unencrypted HTTP can expose credentials and returned data. Do not assume an open 6103 port is RETS solely from the IANA assignment.
