TeamViewer
TeamViewer is a widely-used remote access and desktop sharing application that enables users to connect to and control remote computers over the internet with minimal configuration. It facilitates secure remote support, collaboration, and file transfer between systems across various platforms..
TeamViewer primarily facilitates remote desktop control, online meetings, and file transfer. It leverages centralized TeamViewer servers for connection brokering, enabling easy NAT and firewall traversal.
By default, TeamViewer clients initiate outbound connections to the TeamViewer cloud infrastructure on port 5938/TCP & UDP, which is optimized for performance and stability. This port enables the primary communication channel for controlling and viewing remote desktops. If this port is unavailable, TeamViewer falls back to TCP/443 or TCP/80, allowing seamless operation in restrictive network environments.
While port 5938 is preferred due to enhanced data transmission efficiency, fallback mechanisms ensure connectivity even when security policies block the dedicated port. TeamViewer uses proprietary protocols over this port, encapsulating remote display data, input control commands, and ancillary features like file transfer and chat.
