Technical Details
what runs on :5649P is a client-server filesystem protocol. A client begins with a version exchange, then authenticates or attaches to a filesystem namespace and performs operations such as walk, open, read, write, and stat. Messages are length-prefixed and tagged for request/response matching; common dialects include 9P2000 and 9P2000.L. IANA lists both TCP and UDP for this service, although deployed network implementations commonly use TCP or non-IP transports such as local or virtio connections. The protocol does not provide encryption by default.

security overview
An exposed 9P endpoint can disclose or modify the filesystem namespace made available by the server, depending on its authentication and permission configuration. Because traffic is normally cleartext and the service is uncommon on the public Internet, it should generally be restricted to trusted networks or protected with an external secure transport rather than directly exposed.
