Technical Details

what runs on :3351

Btrieve uses a proprietary request/response database protocol over TCP and, in some deployments, UDP. Clients use it to issue record-level and transactional operations to the Btrieve server, including indexed reads, writes, locking, and database maintenance; traffic is not HTTP or a general-purpose file-sharing protocol. Port 3351 is the conventional service port, although deployments may change it or use additional discovery and administration mechanisms.

security overview

Btrieve traffic is not encrypted by default, so credentials and database operations may be exposed to network observers unless protected by other controls. The service should normally be restricted to trusted application hosts and internal networks; exposing it publicly permits fingerprinting and attacks against the database engine or its access controls and may expose sensitive business data.
