Technical Details

NDMP uses a control connection, conventionally TCP/10000, between a backup application and an NDMP server or data mover. The protocol uses structured, XDR-encoded request and response messages and can establish separate data connections for backup or restore streams, with the mover and connection direction negotiated by the control protocol. NDMP versions and vendor implementations vary; the protocol itself is not normally associated with a second universally fixed data port.
