Network Port and Protocol Information

Network ports a numerical identification that network based protocols use typically when two or more devices attempt to talk which each other via software or an application, this could be over a local network, or a wide area network such as the internet.

Protocols can technically use any port number between 0 and 65535, however so that an application can access the correct port on a peer device, there are commonly agreed upon and used ports, some of these are actually allocated by IANA to avoid overlapping uses or confusion.

This website is a database of known network ports, either allocated by IANA, or just commonly used and therefore known about.
